Free Way

Despite difficult circumstances we hold our dreams and imagine a life and place where one flower and one free couch can be our house and garden if only for a few moments'

Mi Casa

When your home is on the street a welcomed guest can just wander by and you say "my house is your house"

Cell

Whether being led by or simply documenting yourself our cell phones are our jail cell.

Work

What constitutes work on the street is open for discussion.

Got Logged

His shirt says "kill people not trees" which might be an overreaction to being logged out of his home but being vulnerable and living on the street makes you angry.

New Bag

At what point in the process of gentrification do we pick up the poo?

No Smoking

As any criminal will tell you "rules are for losers"

Manifesto

I glanced to my right while driving and saw a guy with a ski mask surrounded by a film crew leaving me with only my imagination to wonder what the story was.

Train

I heard yelling and looked out my studio window and saw a guy in a ski mask flailing a machete on his bike in a heated argument with himself and my first thought was that was a good way to get shot by the police.

Snuffles

Sometimes friendships begin in unsavory ways but over time a genuine concern develops in the midst of hardship. Ironically this painting was purchased by Portland's premier German deli Otto's Sausage Kitchen to display in their store.

Unicorn

Unicorns are impossible to catch and never try a three way with them.

Eight Deuces

Eight Deuces are part of the Crips but ultimately the best gang is your family. This painting is owned by a renowned doctor whose life is dedicated to keeping people alive and with their families.

Frankenstein

Frankenstein never gets respect. He is a bunch of working guys stitched together and despite his brilliant sinister mind his body betrays him and he will never get the girl.

Gras

Portland was once known for having more strip clubs than any city but now Cannabis shops have replaced them and everyone knows The Creature is a Bob Marley fan.

Three Graces

For some reason watching a performance on your cell causes you to miss whats right in front of you. Faith Hope and Charity are lost in cyber space.

Razar

I saw this pregnant girl on her scooter pop out of a homeless encampment in the bushes which was a place I feared to go so I assured myself that she was too young to understand the danger...courage is an odd thing.

Tri Met

In a city of bus stops it is the best way to view your fellow citizens.

Tri Met painting by Greg Hergert 16X20 inches 2016 sold

Scrapper

I walked by this guy as he whooshed a skill saw between his legs with the joy of making money off others junk. The scrapper subculture is a world I have indulged in and am rather fond of the messy outlaws that live the life.

Scrapper painting by Greg Hergert oil on vellum 20X30 inches 2016

Tinmen

Portland has a building boom and the displaced litter the streets. High ho high ho off to work we go as buildings go up some men go down progress has a price.

Tinmen painting by Greg Hergert oil on vellum 20X30 inches 2016

Food Cart

When you frequent a certain food cart trying a different one feels like cheating. I suggest going to a different food court to avoid the evil eye.

Ant Man

Ant man likes his cars fast and his girls ready

You can't pick your neighbor but you can accept them just as they are.
